An internship is a training period aimed at students during their degree programme (curricular internship), recent graduates within 12 months of obtaining their degree (extracurricular internship), and graduates who are unemployed or seeking employment (work placement/reintegration traineeship), carried out at companies, public institutions, or with professionals. It may be mandatory according to the degree programme regulations or undertaken on a voluntary basis.

The maximum duration of an internship is 12 months for students and 6 months for recent graduates.

An internship involves three parties: the trainee, the promoting body (the University of Padua), and the host organization (the institution where the traineeship takes place). The training programme includes three roles that guide and support the trainee: the university tutor, a faculty member of the University, and the company tutor, the person within the host organization who supervises and supports the trainee.
